Teachers Without Borders (TWB) is an international non- profit organisation launched in 2000. It connects teachers to information and each other in order to close the education divide. TWB enables local educators the opportunity to connect with colleagues globally. Teachers Without Borders' initiatives and courses are offered in various formats and settings: online, in schools, as community workshops, in books and journals, and on the radio.

Teachers Without Borders has 9 very important initiatives but I have chosen to focus on Girl’ s Education.

The positive impact of educating girls is indisputable. Major research studies have shown that educated girls are 50% more likely to immunize their children in the future.  A child born to a literate mother is 50% more likely to survive past the age of 5. With an extra year of education, a girl can earn up to 20% more as an adult.

Teachers Without Borders' girls' education programs address four central themes: (1) access (2) education in emergencies (3) public health, and (4) empowerment . They examine the data around the education of girls, as well as analyses, images, and stories; (b) relationship: how new learning about girls’ education relates to our practice; and (c) the capacity to make a measurable difference in and for our classrooms, our communities, and the world.

Education programmes can easily overlook the special needs of specific groups. Under representation of girls is widely reported and discussed (Stromquist, 1997; ).Many of the issues affecting girl's education in poor countries affect refugee girls also. The most prominent reason for the under-representation of refugee girls in school affects boys also, namely family poverty.( (Sinclair, 1998b).Keeping girls in school and ensuring they can learn in a safe and supportive environment leads to many benefits for girls themselves, their families, their communities and societies.

Knowledge creates power for change .
